Race Synopsis: The Australian Cup (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Humidor claimed Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m) favouritism with a dominant display here. Having his third run this preparation, the Darren Weir-trained stayer settled near the tail of the 12-horse field. He improved (deep, with cover) rounding the home turn, sprinted quickly from the 300m, hit the front at the 100m and then drew clear to score decisively in an impressive performance. The favourite and dual Group One winner Hartnell was smartly away, travelled well outside the leader (Hey Doc), briefly looked the winner when he got to the front at the 300m, but had no answer to the late-closing winner and held on to take a sound second after seeming to have had every chance. Black Heart Bart settled in fifth place, improved (wide) from the 600m, challenged at the 300m and kept fighting well in his usual game manner, holding on for a good third. Gailo Chop was a handy third on the rails, got into clear running at the 200m and battled on nicely for (4.05 lengths) fourth. Single Gaze raced in eighth place, moved up (deep) rounding the home turn and did well in fighting on for (5.05 lengths) fifth. The Irish-bred import Ventura Storm was tenth at the home turn and made ground, in restricted room, for (5.35 lengths) sixth in a promising run at his third Australian start, while Tavago was also cramped for room, and made late ground for (5.45 lengths) seventh.
